I heard (saw) about this art work in Serhiy Sternenko’s channel. He personally made a post about the film, emphasizing that it should be watched and have maximum distribution on social networks. A little later (in the process of reviewing), I realized that this appeal had the right to life also because Serhiy took a direct part in this project.

As it became known later, it is not possible to watch this “movie” in free access on the network, because no one has yet revoked the copyright and, to my surprise, for some reason it has become a wonder for many (including the authors of this idea). Indeed, why does it happen that Quentin Tarantino’s fully dubbed masterpiece is not allowed to be officially published and even banned from screening in cinemas? (sarcastic surprise).

Yes, for those who have not heard anything about “Death Squad” – this is a video sequence of Quentin Tarantino’s film “Inglourious Basterds“, which from the beginning to the very end has a complete redubbing, and also with content correction. There are several episodes with musical accompaniment and images from the original. But everything else – sound, content of the text, phrases of the characters, lines – invented and mounted on top.

From the legendary Tarantino’s work there is only a masterpiece game of heroes and a high-quality video series, the sound frankly leaves much to be desired.

And I have a very big question about this: does this work have the right to be called his, Tarantino? Because Quentin, like other actors, participants of the original film, is indicated at the beginning of “Death Squad”.

What kind of Quentin movie is it if it’s twisted with its own dubbing at will? One of the three fundamental Tarantino columns (dialogues, music, sound) has disappeared without a trace. No, it cannot be called Tarantino’s film, and the credits did not have the right to indicate his name or the actors. This is a completely different work, a parody marred by low-grade humor from start to finish.

Absolutely all the dialogues have been changed, the work is completely different, it looks differently, and the actors, playing a certain state of affairs, environment, situations that are connected with the dialogues, spew out something mean and sarcastic, even with a flavor of the national greatness of the Ukrainian people.

From the first minutes, I hear contradictory statements, an undisguised multi-layered negative attitude towards russians and everything russian, which often crosses the line of appropriateness within the framework of art and goes to the level of superficial contempt through offensive phrases, giving the character derogatory features, behavior etc.

I consider myself a nationalist, I openly despise the russians and my hatred for them will last my whole life, but to successfully express this attitude is also an art and if you use one of the masterpieces of cinema, then please, you should meet the bar taken, and not jump to the level of the 95th quarter or the toilet moscovite kamediklabshchyna.

The humor in “Death Squad” is out of place, the dialogues are detached from the solid portrait of the film and only those who watched original movie can feel at least some irony and the appropriateness of this or that phrase. But in general, dubbing is a complete failure.

There are a few good points, but for the sake of these couple of minutes it does not make sense to spend two and a half hours, although I did it, as always, to have a complete picture and write a full review.

Now to the specifics.

Ukrainian language from pro-russian military is nonsense. It is no secret to anyone that most russians do not know or do not understand the Ukrainian, but for some reason the moskovite gendarme switches to it very easily, moreover, without an accent, without russianisms, to a fairly pure Ukrainian language. By no means cling to the plot and a specific character, but it was certainly easier to re-dub this problematic segment at the beginning.

Half of the film should be in russian with Ukrainian subtitles, but no – almost all russians, with a few exceptions, speak Ukrainian throughout the film, and those who speak russian somehow understand Ukrainian very well. In the real world, this is practically impossible, muscovites are not capable of this, that is a fact.

And I don’t want to write anything more, because everything is already written above. “Death Squad” is a failed attempt at humor, an even more failed attempt to reach the level of Quentin’s dialogue. And you didn’t even have to try. And if you do, then not the whole movie, but a separate episode (with Sternenko, for example) and don’t release this movie as an event, but simply post it on the networks for a few minutes to raise your spirits.

There is nothing to write about the fact that absolutely all moksharas in the film are mixed with the anthem here. This is a common thing for a real Ukrainian, and I support it with all my might. Our hatred will be enough for many decades and we, unfortunately or maybe fortunately, will not forget anything. This rage will breathe with its full chest for more than one generation and seep into creativity at the first opportunity.
In the war conditions (at the time of writing this review it has been 8 years and 8 months), this act of defining disgust for russian, which goes everywhere throughout the entire film without embellishments, is more appropriate than ever. Another delicious spit for russia and its squalid slaves.

I do not recommend watching the movie “Death Squad”.

A few good bows are not worth three hours of your life. Better watch (re-watch) the original “Inglourious Basterds”. The guys who did that parody are certainly well done, because they draw attention to important topics. But I cannot remain silent about the quality, all my reviews are as frank and honest as possible.

My rating is 3 out of 10

Two points for the video sequence (it’s one of my favorite movies), and another point for hating russia and its population.
