If you are looking for a comedy, skip this movie. Even though Eddie Murphy is here. He is perfect as always, but there is almost no comedy here, too little funny.

The film “A Thousand Words” (2012) is very simple and does not need a long review. Superficiality, arrogance, narcissism, purposefulness, relations with parents, memory – these are the words I can highlight after watching. Each of these layers exists and flashes from the screen, prompting the viewer to ask questions, communicate with himself. A good sign, the film is not empty.

This is not a masterpiece that industry should be proud of. “A Thousand Words” is a one-time movie.

Idea

“Words are less power than actions” is the main idea that the authors of the film did not reveal very well. But it is better, because someone will come to their own conclusions’

“You need to accept the reality that once all the leaves have fallen, you will die…”

A film about writing

Yes, I added him to the list, but there is very little about the authors. Mostly about the industry itself, about the fact that publishing market is driven by marketing and appeal to a wide circle.

Do I advise writers to watch it? Yes, it would add a greater understanding of the field, something to be prepared for.

Controversies, flaws (beware, spoilers)

Of course, these shortcomings could be ignored, but I still decided to write about it.

Professional literary critic

I immediately doubt his professionalism after the first sessions of communication. His mistake in choosing the next client was decisive and very rude.

A thousand leaves on a tree

Usually there are many more leaves on tree (if it is not sick). Yes, in the movie “A Thousand Words” (2012), the tree is unusual, but still a thousand is not enough.

Wife

Several times, the main character cannot explain to others why he is silent. This adds a certain comedy, but already in the following scenes he simply wastes words on empty chatter or swearing. He could calmly and succinctly explain to his colleagues and his wife, but that would be a different movie, of course.

From comedy to drama

At the beginning of “A Thousand Words” (2012) you laugh, towards the end you start to feel embarrassed and think about serious things. The amount of time during which the dramatic events take place is too long to remember this film as a comedy. And just like that, light, I wanted to see it, airy, free, and not tense and moralizing on the topic of death, relationships and family. Although, of course, you have to put some thought into the work, but “A Thousand Words” (2012) does it too clumsily.

Conclusions

The movie is simple, but not so comedic as to sew up your ruptured stomach after watching it.

Dramatic component is powerful, but clumsily implemented.

The film is about writers, so I recommend authors to watch it, if there is nothing at all.

Eddie Murphy‘s fine acting saves this movie from disaster.

I advise you to watch it with friends, family, and relatives.
