A year after their father’s funeral, three brothers travel across India by train in an attempt to bond with each other.
What’s happening? Mystery and intrigue from the first seconds. You get the dish in small portions, sometimes you come across hot spices that completely overwhelm all the receptors and the picture of what is happening is complemented by new colors.
The characters imperceptibly flirt with the viewer, giving the opportunity to try on their actions and reactions to themselves. Everyone will find their “charms” and “shortcomings”, different and so similar to each other, everything in this movie personifies the vast majority of behavior patterns and types of people.
Everyone will definitely recognize themselves in this movie, some more, some less. But this will not happen immediately, not during the film, but after watching, when the logical question is “what did I just see? What is this story about? What did I get?”. This is the magic of real cinema, this is the beauty of quality storytelling.
A life situations and problems kaleidoscope, vinaigrette. Love affairs, fathers and children, birth and death, movement, peace.
At first glance, it seems that chaos is on the screen, but each ingredient of this dish is verified and has its own taste, giving a special charm to the absorption process.
Appetite is played out little by little and by the end of the film you want more. The chef did his best.
“We are here to learn trust each other”
Warm colors, the East atmosphere, India appears in all its glory and allows you to look inside their customs, the lives of ordinary people, moods, mores and attitudes.
“We want to have a spiritual experience…”
Distrust, deceit, family, spirituality – all these words periodically flash in the head and in the replicas of the main characters, as if the bells are giving a signal, directing them in the right direction.
“Why are you so weird? I need to think. I’ll tell you when I see you again. Oh well, don’t forget…”
The script was written with the participation of director Wes Anderson. And the hand of the maestro impersonates interesting solutions that you will not find in popular cinema. The movie is frankly an amateur and there will certainly be a viewer who will get bored in ten minutes. But I was lucky, I’m not one of them and enjoyed my time studying this film, studying myself.
“Maybe we could express ourselves more fully if we say it without words. Should we try that?”
The director boldly and without warning falls into the soul of the viewer with the words “I know everything about you”, but he does it so gracefully that there is nothing left but to welcome a guest.
This is the first film by Wes Anderson, I watched it on my friend’s recommendation. Let’s see what will happen to the rest of his creations. I won’t say that I’m wildly delighted, but the picture is very worthy, although for a complete set I didn’t have enough drama and certainty in it.
Everything is too ironic and simple, too easy, too many topics covered. The development of characters, their role in the plot, the final chord – everything is fabulous, divorced from reality. This irony is the special ingredient of Wes Anderson, and it does not matter at all that he did not please me to the fullest. My review is very subjective, and I’m full anyway. Ate well. Thank you.
After viewing, a pleasant aftertaste remains, although, perhaps, I was just lucky with my mood. “The Darjeeling Limited” is one of those that I would like to advise someone who wants to watch a light movie, but is unlikely to take pride of place in the Must-See list. Too much competition there.
My rating is 8/10
