An absolutely uninteresting character focuses all attention on himself. “Look at how wonderful she is, how much she has achieved, now live her life 24 hours a day and listen to her super-intelligent conversations in unspeakably long takes, absolutely nothing happens in.
Minorities topic shines from first minutes and regularly appears in the frame. Hypertolerance is one of Oscar’s weak points, so it is not surprising in film “Tar” a strong emphasis was placed on it.
The film is a constant expectation of something. The first hour is boring, but what about the second hour? The same nonsense about a strong woman! The third? Yes, that’s right! The film lasts almost three hours! 160 minutes of torture. Nothing worthy of attention and cinema happens in the plot. A complete lack of intrigue or tension. Is this some kind of joke, I guess? How the hell is this crap even being nominated for an Oscar? But also in 6 nominations…
Professional component
To play a great composer-conductor well, you need to have the appropriate skills. Does Cate Blanchett have? I doubt it, although I can’t say the opposite, because I don’t know anything about it. Her clumsy movements somehow hurt the eyes, although I will never be able to perceive even a professional conductor as a necessary part of an orchestra’s musical performance. These respectable shocks of air have nothing to do with art or any professional musical qualities in my universe. Personally, for me, it’s just a person doing physical exercises standing with back to audience.
Trial
Considering the uninteresting character and my rather skeptical attitude towards this profession, watching the film became a real test for me. I tried to find at least something interesting and powerful, besides the excellent performance of the actress in the main role.
Music
The film is about musicians, about the “maestro”, but apart from the constant barely audible buzzing and isolated performances, short rehearsals, there is absolutely nothing here. How can it even be? Why? What for?
Oscar
Do they want 6 wins? Perhaps it will be only one, for the Actress in a Leading role. Depending on mood of this tape, it is ironic and a little funny that Cate Blanchett is not competing in the male category. But I won’t be surprised if the juries swallow this feminist garbage and award it one or even several statuettes.
This is a one role film. It is possible it was filmed for this very reason, to give Kate another Oscar.
Conclusions
It’s so bad I’m too lazy write anything. I respect Cate Blanchett. And only because of her, the film does not get zero rating, but only 1.
I have spent 3 hours of my life to tell my opinion on the movie Tar (2022). And it is extremely negative.
There is absolutely nothing interesting in the tape, no music, no intrigue, no high-quality script. Total bullshit
I strongly do not recommend viewing. To no one.
