I make an effort to avoid delaying the process of writing a review, which is why my texts often end up being emotional, yet honest. The same has happened this time as well. I have just finished watching the film, and I am already penning down the opening lines of this text in beautiful calligraphic script.
Mario Casas and Adrián Doria in the movie “The Invisible Guest” (2016)
The center of my attention is Adrián Doria, who was played by the talentless, empty, monotonous Mario Casas.
The beginning of this actor’s career was in 2010 with the film “Tres metros sobre el cielo”, which was awarded the worst film of the year by the Yoga Awards. For some reason, this tape has gained great popularity in the CIS space, although it is as empty and meaningless as the actor himself in the main role. During these 12 years, Mario Casas managed to become famous and recognizable, but not for his acting skills, strong roles, powerful works, but as a media person.
His vanity is recognized and nurtured only in Spain, where he regularly receives awards for “best actor”, “best media person” etc.
Mario Casas does everything with the same facial expression: he walks, shits, smokes, curses, gets nervous, calls on the phone, wakes up in the morning, meets his lover, goes to prison. In order not to do Mario Casas, everything will be with a stone face, which is allegedly afraid to wince, so that there are no wrinkles left, God forbid, from this emotion.
Sometimes, for variety, he changes his facial expression, as if he is about to be photographed on the cover of a men’s magazine: this kind of strong attractive man with a rich inner world and a lot of problems that he managed to overcome on the way to this peak of fame.
Why so much attention to this person?
Because he is this film. And it spoils everything. He alone ruined a very good movie, he single-handedly turned the tape from a thriller into a mediocre one. I don’t know what guided the casting department, but Mario not only acted disgustingly and extremely badly, but also blocked a rather interesting scenario. Any mediocre actor with minimal experience and skills could have been in his place, and the film would have been much better and complete.
Adrián Doria – empty, uninteresting, gray, boring. And all because of the one and only actor mentioned above.
You may get the impression that I am too picky and that I have some personal dislike for Mario.
Regarding subjectivity, I agree, everyone has their own tastes.
But I rely on the cinema guidelines, on the highest level, and not individual negativity towards a single actor. I compare his game with the giants and he clearly loses.
Mario is a great model, generally attractive, charismatic, but his acting is quite low. He doesn’t act, he just exists in the frame. As in this film, as well as in other works with his participation, his colleagues, who are more alive, emotional, frank and devoted to their work, play hard instead of him.
About other things in the movie “The Invisible Guest” (2016)”
Other actors, I admit, tried very hard. I will not list all of them, but each of the main and even secondary roles played much better than Casas.
The script is impeccable, keeps you in suspense, thought out to the smallest detail. Everything is written and executed perfectly. I want to watch from the very beginning to the end without a single break.
The cinematic aspect is present in the best perspective. Cinematography and scenery, locations, composition – everything is at the highest level and complements the sharp plot with its wit.
I also like the music and it fits organically into the course of events.
Intrigue, freshness, sharpness, dynamics – all this can honestly be associated with the film “Contratiempo” (2016).
I don’t know the director, but he knows his business and the film turned out to be meaningful, satisfying, appetizing.
Results for “The Invisible Guest”
Could have been a solid nine, but ladies and gentlemen, Mario Casas did a good job this time, so only six.
My rating is 6 out of 10
I recommend watching it to everyone who is not as picky about actors as I am.
